Miltos Kountouras (1889-1940) fought for the liberalization of education. His principles are reflected in the demand for free choice of school textbooks, respect to the teacher and the peculiarities of each school environment and each student and, above all, in the emphasis on the pedagogical role of school.
In Greece, post-compulsory Secondary Education consists of two school types: General Upper Secondary Schools (ΓΕΛ) and the Technical Vocational Educational Schools (ΕΠΑΛ). The duration of studies is 3 years for students from 16-18 years old.
Today our Lyceum (Lykeio) offers a three year course of General Education. Here there are 31 teachers, 225 students, 44 classrooms, 6 laboratories, 1 centre for science, 1 centre for career orientation, a gym, a library, an amphitheater, a multipurpose Hall and offices.
